The Middle East's biggest law firm has unveiled its inaugural ESG report.

Almost two-thirds of hires made by Al Tamimi & Company last year were female, a new report by the Middle East law firm has shown.

In 2023, Al Tamimi made 213 hires of which 59% were women, according to the regional firm’s Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) Report, released on Thursday.

Al Tamimi is understood to be the first regional law firm to produce a report of this nature.

The report further shows that 14% of the firm’s partnership is female, representing a 44% increase from the previous two years.

Female representation in the firm has increased by over 11% now accounting for 46% of the total workforce.

In leadership roles, more than one-third (36%) of senior and middle-management positions are occupied by women.

The inaugural report also includes a breakdown by gender of employees in the countries the regional firm operates. There are more female employees than male in the firm’s offices in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, and Iraq, according to data (below) in the report.

The firm launched its ESG strategy in 2023, with a focus on measurable, time-bound goals, according to a statement.

Essam Al Tamimi, the firm’s chairman, said: “The ESG Report highlights the initiatives we have undertaken to reduce our carbon footprint, support local communities, and promote diversity and equal opportunity. We believe that by integrating sustainability with legal expertise, we can make a positive impact on society and help build a sustainable future.”
