Charles Russell Speechlys has moved its Qatar office north of Doha to Lusail, and revealed growth plans in areas including corporate and construction.

The firm’s office was previously located at Tornado Tower in West Bay, and earlier this year moved to new premises in Burj Al Fardan, a business tower in the Marina District of Lusail City. The official launch is taking place on May 14.

Lusail is the second-largest city in Qatar after Doha, and considered to be the country’s economic capital. Badged as Qatar’s ‘future city’, it lies north of Doha’s city centre.

Speaking to Law Middle East, Alim Khamis, partner and head of the firm’s office in Qatar, said:

“A number of courts and government ministries have recently moved to Lusail and we saw the benefit in doing the same given our dispute resolution capabilities.”

Charles Russell has operated in Qatar for over a decade. Its focus is corporate, construction, dispute resolution, sports law, and private wealth, which Khamis, who specialises in construction disputes, said is consistent with emergent trends and Qatar’s National Vision 2030.

Continuing, he said:

“Our plans include continued service of our clientele in these sectors and continued growth in resourcing (i.e. further recruitment) with a particular focus on corporate services and construction (transactional and dispute resolution).”

A number of local and international law firms have offices and teams of lawyers on the ground in Qatar, including international firms Addleshaw Goddard, Eversheds Sutherland, and White & Case, and local firms like Al Tamimi & Company, Al-Khalifa Law Firm, and Alhababi Law Firm, which recently struck a partnership with Riyadh-based Alhaqban Law Firm.

In other firm news, Charles Russell this month promoted three lawyers to senior associate in the Middle East. They are: Sarah Kadhum, who specialises in corporate law in Dubai, and Durra Al Ali and Hannah McDonald, who are based in the firm’s Bahrain office and specialise in commercial disputes and construction, respectively.
