Habib Al Mulla continues Russia expansion with strategic new hire

Daria Selivanova has joined the firm as counsel in the corporate and M&A team.

Habib Al Mulla and Partners is continuing to build its capabilities in Russia with a strategic new hire in Dubai.

Daria Selivanova has joined the firm as counsel in the corporate and M&A team, effective July 23.

Selivanova is qualified in Russia and England & Wales, with experience in advising on cross-border and domestic projects.

She has joined from AX Law in Dubai, where she was most recently a senior associate, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to this, she worked at DLA Piper in the UK, and the Moscow offices of Winston & Strawn and Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer.

Commenting on her move, Selivanova told Law Middle East: “It is a true honor to work as a part of such an established practice, offering strong support to its clients with its profound expertise.”

She added she hopes to invest in the firm’s “expansion in the UAE, Russia, Turkey, and beyond”.

News of the hire comes months after the firm opened an office in Moscow, becoming the first UAE law firm to establish a presence in Russia, and internationally. It opened an office in Istanbul, Turkey, last November.

Habib Al Mulla founding partner, Dr Habib Al Mulla, told Law Middle East the firm is continuing to build its Russian office capabilities.

He previously said the firm will recruit from the local market as the business grows.

At present, Danila Kriuchkov, a junior associate, commutes between the firm’s Dubai and Moscow offices, where it services Emirati businesses and investments venturing into the Russian market and beyond.

In 2022, in the wake of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, a number of international law firms exited Russia and closed their offices.
