Mayer Brown has announced the appointment of a new partner in Dubai.

Priya Shah has joined from Ashurst, where she was most recently a senior associate, based in the firm’s Abu Dhabi office. She has also worked in Singapore and London prior to moving to the Middle East.

Shah specialises in energy matters, with a focus on upstream oil and natural gas.

She brings more than a decade of experience advising national and international energy companies, exploration and production (E&P) companies, project developers, traders, and off-takers on liquefied natural gas (LNG) and energy projects, as well as upstream oil & gas acquisitions and disposals.

Tom Thraya, managing partner of Mayer Brown’s Dubai office, said: “Our clients will benefit from Priya’s broad experience in the energy sector. Her addition aligns with our strategy to grow our domestic and cross-border capabilities in the energy, projects, and natural resources sectors, and further expands Mayer Brown’s market-leading global capabilities.”

Nick Kouvaritakis, global co-head of energy at Mayer Brown, said: “I am delighted that Priya has joined the firm and this is a significant addition for the energy practice and our Middle East practice. Priya has a fantastic track record advising on a wide range of energy transactions and is a dynamic partner with a very bright future in the industry.”

Her addition follows the hire of Mayer Brown energy partners Chad Richards in Washington, DC, Michael Kim in Singapore, and Alexandre Arlota in Rio de Janeiro last year.

In August 2023, the firm hired energy partner Anne Wicks from White & Case, where she was the managing partner of its Doha office.

The firm recently hired capital markets specialist Rafe Khokhar as a partner in Dubai. Khokhar joined from Dechert, where he was a counsel.
