Charles Russell welcomes tenth partner in Dubai

Maher Al Nashar's hire in the litigation practice comes as the firm looks to expand its local law abilities.

Charles Russell Speechlys has announced the hire of its tenth partner in the Dubai office.

Maher Al Nashar has joined the firm’s litigation practice from Clyde & Co, where he was most recently a legal director, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He has three decades of experience advising on both contentious and non-contentious matters across the Middle East, within the fields of real estate, commercial, arbitration, and insurance.

Much of his work relates to the application of local law within the context of onshore commercial disputes and he has contributed to pleadings before courts and jurisdictions across the Middle East, including Bahrain, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia.

“As we continue to enhance our practice and deepen our capabilities in the GCC region, we are pleased to welcome Maher to the team,” said Charles Russell Speechlys partner and Middle East practice head Patrick Gearon. “In response to client demand, we are strategically expanding our Arabic litigation practice and Maher’s addition strengthens our ability to apply local law in broader commercial disputes.”

Ghassan El Daye, Charles Russell Speechlys partner and Middle East civil law litigation head, added: “I look forward to collaborating with Maher to continue developing our local law and litigation practice across the Middle East. His full Arabic proficiency and deep understanding of the regional legal landscape will enhance our team’s effectiveness and will further instil client confidence in our services.”

Al Nashar is the third international partner to join the firm this year. His announcement coincided with the hires of corporate partner Tun Zaw Mra in Singapore and financial services and funds partner Racheal Muldoon in London. His arrival also follows the recent appointment of commercial dispute resolution partner Aline Wey Speirs in Zurich.

In May 2024, the firm hired insolvency litigation specialist Nicola Jackson as a partner from Clyde & Co.
