On Emirati Women’s Day 2025, we share words of advice from three of the UAE’s most prominent legal professionals, Fatima Balfaqeeh, Diana Hamade, and Jehad Abdulrazzaq Kazim.
This year’s celebration marks 50 years since the UAE’s General Women’s Union was established in 1975, and 10 years since the day was officially inaugurated in 2015.
Fatima Balfaqeeh, founding partner of Balfaqeeh Advocates & Legal Consultants:

“First, believe that you belong in this space. There is no limit to where you can practice and succeed. The legal profession is changing, and there is so much room for strong, capable women to lead in this field.
Second, never stop learning. The best lawyers are the ones who keep evolving. Whether that means getting new qualifications, gaining rights of audience in different courts, or just staying curious—always push yourself to grow.
And finally, find mentors and build your network. Having the right people to guide and support you makes all the difference. Learn from those who came before you, and when the time comes, be that mentor for someone else.
We rise by lifting others, and the more we support each other, the stronger we become as a community of Emirati legal professionals.”

Diana Hamade, founder and managing partner of Diana Hamade Attorneys at Law:

“The UAE is what I would call a women empowering state—literally. The work force is open to women; in fact, it encourages women to pursue their careers.
Take the law seriously. It is not just any job. You are not only responsible for your own interests, but for the country and generations of women and men.
I always say that the law has been my wings and it is true that it could take you places you never imagined.
So, make sure you qualify, and you work hard to make that mark where you will be recognised for your efforts.”
Jehad Abdulrazzaq Kazim, executive director of Dubai International Arbitration Centre

“Staying updated on legal trends and developments, and having a strong network of professionals both within and outside the legal field is crucial.
Further, self-advocacy plays a pivotal role in ensuring recognition and career progression. Women should confidently articulate their achievements, aspirations, and contributions.
Beyond professional pursuits, maintaining a healthy work-life balance is essential for long-term wellbeing and success.”
