Trowers & Hamlins has promoted Raya Al Harthy to the partnership, making her the first Omani female to make partner at an international law firm in the Sultanate of Oman.

Al Harthy specialises in dispute resolution involving local and international commercial and construction litigation and arbitration, and leads the dispute resolution practice in Oman.

She has spent over eight years at the firm, having joined as an associate in June 2016, according to her LinkedIn profile. Prior to Trowers & Hamlins, she trained and qualified in the Muscat office of US law firm Curtis, Mallet-Prevost, Colt & Mosle.

Commenting on the new promotions, Sara Bailey, senior partner at Trowers & Hamlins, said: “They have all demonstrated exceptional legal acumen, commitment to clients and have embodied the values of the firm. I welcome the 2024 cohort into the partnership and I wish them every success as they venture into the next stage of their careers.”

The news follows yesterday’s announcement regarding Al Tamimi & Company partner Basma Al Kiyumi, who made history as the first representative of Oman at the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) Court of Arbitration.

Oman has not previously had representation at the ICC Court, and is one of 12 new countries for the 2024-2027 mandate.

Other international law firms with women among their partner ranks in Oman include CMS. Mary Allan is a partner in the firm’s Middle East projects team, based in Muscat.
