Trowers taps Ashurst for Dubai project finance partner

The firm has also strengthened its private wealth practice with the hire of a senior associate.

Trowers & Hamlins has added two lawyers to its ranks in Dubai.

Brad Sandford joins as a partner in the firm’s projects, energy & infrastructure (PEI) team from Ashurst, where he was most recently a senior associate, according to his LinkedIn profile.

He brings 14 years of project finance experience, advising clients ranging from financial institutions to governments and government-related entities.

Sandford worked at Ashurst since 2012 in the London and Dubai offices, according to a statement. He was seconded to the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) in Tokyo for three years, from November 2019 until January 2023, where he was the sole lawyer advising the Social Infrastructure Finance Department on a wide range of projects.

“His extensive experience, both in terms of his broad project finance practice and especially in the financing of renewables and social infrastructure projects across Europe, the Middle East and Asia, will be a great fit for Trowers,” said Hasan Rahman, partner and PEI co-head at Trowers & Hamlins, in a statement.

The firm has also strengthened its private wealth practice with the hire of a senior associate in Dubai.

Rebecca Goldring re-joined the firm on June 3 from Penningtons Manches Cooper, having previously worked at Trowers & Hamlins between 2014-2017, according to a statement.

She advises high-net-worth individuals and families, family offices, and trustees on global estate planning, and specialises in succession structures with both a regional and international dynamic.

Commenting on the hire, Richard Jordan, head of private wealth at Trowers & Hamlins, said: “Our network of offices in the Middle East is experiencing a growing demand for onshore and offshore structuring of family wealth. We are delighted to welcome Rebecca back to the team.”

In April, Trowers & Hamlins appointed a partner in the international dispute resolution and litigation department, based in Dubai. Nikita Patel joined from Clyde & Co, where she was a legal director.
