‘We stand with you’: Latham issues statement amid Los Angeles wildfires

The global firm has deep roots in LA and the wider community.

Latham & Watkins has issued a statement in the wake of wild-scale destruction caused by wildfires in Los Angeles.

The global firm, which has deep roots in LA and the wider community, shared a post across social media saying, “Los Angeles, we stand with you”.

Firefighters are battling to control wildfires in Los Angeles that have left several people dead, displaced thousands of others, and destroyed homes and businesses. Investigators are examining multiple causes for the fires, including climate change.

“We are deeply saddened by the destruction and devastation caused by the wildfires in the greater Los Angeles area, and we are immensely grateful to the brave firefighters and emergency responders working tirelessly to contain them,” the firm said in the statement.

“Given our firm’s LA roots and deep ties to the community, this crisis is especially heart-wrenching. Our thoughts are with all affected, including our colleagues, retired partners, alumni, clients, and friends in the wider Los Angeles community.”

“We are inspired by the incredible courage and grit being shown in the face of these catastrophic events, as well as by the outpouring of compassion and kindness in response to unimaginable loss,” the firm said, adding: “Los Angeles, we stand with you—resilient and strong.”

Latham & Watkins was founded in January 1934 in Los Angeles, California, by Dana Latham and Paul Watkins. It has grown to become the second largest law firm in the world by revenue.
